Foot Levelers Provides Support and NCMIC Insures a Future for FCER Fellows

Norwalk, Iowa—The Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) is pleased to announce a generous contribution from Foot Levelers to support the continuing studies of three promising young chiropractors as they endeavor to improve the research and educational footing of the profession. In addition, NCMIC Insurance Company has insured continued development of chiropractic’s research infrastructure by providing financial support of three new applicants.

“Foot Levelers and NCMIC have expressed their commitment to the future of chiropractic research by contributing to research fellowships for chiropractors pursuing post-doctoral education in this field,” said FCER President, Vincent P. Lucido, D.C. “It is gratifying not only for FCER to be the primary chiropractic organization involved in this worthy activity, but to have notable organizations within the profession demonstrate their trust in FCER to use the funds wisely and award them to the most qualified and deserving doctors.”

FCER is proud to support the following outstanding scholars as they further their education.

Renewed Fellows

The three renewed FCER Fellows, sponsored by Foot Levelers, and their areas of study are:

  • Cornelius Myburgh, D.C., is seeking a B.Phil. in social sciences research methodology at the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa

Dr. Myburgh continues to address methodological problems for estimating the efficacy of the clinical management of chronic low back pain. Within the past year he coauthored a groundbreaking prospective randomized clinical trial addressing osteoarthritis of the knee (comparing manipulation with the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug Meloxicam) which was published in the European Journal of Chiropractic.

  • Kathleen Linaker, D.C., is seeking her Ph.D. in higher education, leadership foundations, and counseling psychology at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois

With chiropractic leadership in education requiring major initiatives within the next decade, Dr. Linaker’s potential and contributions over the past year loom exceedingly large.

  • Brian Enebo, D.C., M.S., is pursuing a Ph.D. in motor skill control and learning at the University of Colorado at Boulder

Dr. Enebo has had an extremely accomplished year, having examined the effect of experience in chiropractic on the precision of force production and having crafted an apparatus to that effect. In addition, he developed and implemented most of the testing protocol, recruitment, and data analysis for this project.

"Research is a key component in the evolution of our profession. The ability to document our successes and communicate to the world our value is critical. What better investment can we make in our future than to support the new researchers who will be carrying this important work forward," explained Kent Greenawalt, President of Foot Levelers.

In addition to the four renewed Fellowships, FCER is able to support the education of three new Fellows through the commitment of NCMIC Insurance Company. Said NCMIC President Louis Sportelli, D.C., “The future of the chiropractic profession will depend largely upon our future scholars. There is no quick way to build a cadre of researchers in chiropractic and thus it is visionary thinking that plans today for tomorrow. The entire program of funding scholars is now taking place in the profession and it is a priority. These dedicated individuals deserve all the support the profession can give them today, and their contribution toward the advancement of the entire profession will be immeasurable.”

New Fellows

The three new Fellows, supported by NCMIC, and their areas of study, are:

  • Marion Evans, D.C., is seeking his Ph.D. in health promotion and health behavior at the University of Alabama

The program he intends to enter is uniquely focused on enabling him to ultimately take a leadership position in educating the public in best health and wellness practices. His previous research has addressed the links between health promotion and chiropractic, as well as distance learning for clinical providers.

  • Anthony D’Antoni, D.C., M.S., seeks his Ph.D. in health sciences at Seton Hall University

In pursuing original research in medical education, Dr. D’Antoni intends to focus on a vastly under-researched areas in chiropractic—a mid-map technique which he hopes can increase long-term memory in chiropractic students in the basic science phase of their education and in clinical decision making.

  • Judith A. Polipnick, D.C., Ph.D., is continuing to further her education with a Master of Clinical Research degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Division of Graduate Studies

Her Ph.D. dissertation research at Walden University, a collective case study of six individuals adopting a natural health lifestyle, was distinguished by her insight into qualitative research, which she seeks to refine as it pertains to lifestyle changes in her continuing research efforts at Palmer.

FCER’s Director of Research and Education, Anthony L. Rosner, Ph.D., explains the significance of FCER’s Fellowship program: "The importance of postgraduate support for chiropractic research cannot be underestimated, not only for the profession but for the public as well. The entire future of chiropractic care lies in the hands of research to be able to document what is most effective, and in turn the entire future of research lies in the hands of the fellows whom we support. The grants from Foot Levelers and NCMIC have allowed some of the most qualified future researchers to continue with their studies toward obtaining an advanced degree and ultimately entering a career in research."

Foot Levelers is a pioneer in Postural Support Care for over 50 years and is the world’s leading provider of flexible, custom-made orthotics. For more information on Foot Levelers, please go to www.footlevelers.com.

Over 36,000 doctors of chiropractic rely on NCMIC for their malpractice coverage. In fact, NCMIC has been protecting doctors of chiropractic since 1946, as the original provider of malpractice insurance for chiropractors. Information on NCMIC Insurance Company may be found at www.ncmic.com.

The Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research is chiropractic’s oldest (a 60 year history) and largest non-profit organization devoted solely to building the research and education infrastructure of the profession. FCER has developed the research base which the profession enjoys today and strives to widen that base through research grants and the development of new researchers. In addition, FCER produces research-based education materials for the patient, doctor, third-party payors, and others. More information on FCER can be found on FCER’s website at www.fcer.org.
