New FCER Pamphlet
Cervical Artery
Dissection - Changing the Conversation
The Facts Are Clearly Stated
And Ready For You To Use
From the Most Recent Scientific Evidence:
*
Current research finds no difference between chiropractic care and medical care and the risk of stroke
*
Due to injury or genetics, susceptible people have weaknesses in their cervical arteries which may ultimately lead to stroke
*
Because there are no symptoms of the arterial weakness, the symptoms of the dissection—headache or neck pain—are treated rather than the primary problem
*
The difference in symptoms of CAD, Migraine, Tension-Type Headache and Neck Pain
*
If a person is already experiencing a CAD, some “normal”
activities may progress to stroke—which is why it is important to recognize the signs and symptoms.
"Cervical
artery dissection and stroke has been an issue of great importance
and controversy for the chiropractic profession. Much of the
information provided the public on this topic ... has been based
on emotion and hyperbole. The primary concern of any health
profession should be protecting and serving the public. This
pamphlet, which is based on the most recent scientific evidence,
helps the chiropractic profession do that by providing important
information about this rare and potentially devastating condition.”
– Donald R. Murphy, DC, DACAN.
“Finally an evidence-based pamphlet has been produced that
provides a concise summary of the literature and puts this issue
into proper perspective. This pamphlet deserves to be widely
circulated to the media, among primary care physicians, and to all
chiropractic patients in order that the issue of cervical
manipulation and stroke be put into proper perspective.”
– Michael Schneider, DC, PhD (cand.)

WFC's 20th Biennial
Congress and FCER's ICCR Most Successful in the History
The
10th Biennial International Chiropractic Congress of the World
Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) held in Montreal, April
30-May 2, was the most successful of the 20 year history of
the WFC. With attendance approaching 1,000 and the emphasis on
chiropractic research, it was hard not to be proud of what the
profession has and is accomplishing in the world of science.
Keynote speakers were excellent.
Workshops were diverse. Original research presentations were
some of the best ever submitted. Posters were of high quality
and well designed and very informative. Between the posters
and platform presenters, selected from approximately 150
abstracts submitted, there is strong evidence that FCER has
invested well in its Research Fellowship program in the past
and currently. Never in the history of the profession has
there been such a large number of highly qualified doctors of
chiropractic engaged in the research process from around the
globe.
FCER is proud to continue its support in the development of
future research oriented doctors of chiropractic by awarding
cash prizes of $1,000 and $750 to the first and second place
Student Poster presentations.
The recipients were:
Gunther Gehlen, Brazil
Paper Title: Effects of chiropractic adjustments on the
functionality of the locomotion of Wistar Rats after
immobilization of the hind limb

Paper Title: Spinous Process Hypertrophy Associated with
Implant Devices in the External Link Model

major geographic regions designated by the WFC.
